As you would expect, we love our mobile phones. Our Malaysia Senior Network Engineer has spent about RM10,000 on phones eversince late last year.
All eyes (except mine, I like my Nokia E61i, and it's not even a year old so it's working perfectly fine) are on the Nokia E71, and has already found a few suitors. The last was our Group Executive Director. He called one of the sales team to help set up UNOS PRO on his swanky new toy yesterday.
Could you have anticipated how important mobile phones are. 15 years ago they were car phones, and if you wanted to make it mobile you had to yank the whole set (which was the size of a CPU) out. Not many people had it then, and those who didn't use it much. Now year 1 students already carrying it around (parents use it as a predecessor to those chip implants; kids use it for well, everything the credit limit can allow them to). The posh have them - Vertu and Prada - and even the not-so-posh ones.
Mobile phones are everything now. It's necessary (in many commnunities the penetration rate is above 100%). It's fashion. It's cheap and mighty expensive. It's for young and old (grandfathers don't know Google and they know Motorola). Computers existed before mobile phones, and yet has not swept the world with the same force.
Watches used to be represent the same as mobile phones. And yet now it's phasing away - the younger generation use mobile phones to tell the time.
I wonder how much more important a mobile phone can become.

NEW UNOS WEBSITE
We've launched our new website! It's the same web address, but with a whole new facelift.
And if you have any feedback, do tell us. We take in all your comments. Hey, most of our software development is inspired by you.
Oh, and do check that your UNOS software is updated. Go to Main Menu -> Options -> About. It should read UNOSPro v3.0. If the number is not 3.0, or if the word Beta is still there, then you're due for an update.

SO WE'RE STARTING A BLOG
Our CEO (Michael Ta) thinks it's a brilliant idea to have a blog for UNOS. It's free (like us), virtual (like us), and easy to operate (like us). And that means we get to officially blog during office hours. What's there not to like.
So here's how we will complement the UNOS official website;
(1) We will be more relaxed here
(2) We will tell you about ourselves (like I am a Regional Sales Manager and you will notice that my S-MailS are always spelt in full - I will type "you" instead of "u" - like c'mon, you have 800 characters there's no need to be lazy)
(3) We will have far more photos than the official website
And in the true spirit of UNOS, we will link all our UNOS presence (official website, Facebook fan page, forums, etc) together so you can access everything easily. And we will always take time to read your comments.
So here it goes.

UNOS RACE TO RAISE
Three organizations - UNOS, Televas and Kelab My-Kart Selangor - spent half a day in Shah Alam on 24 July 2008 with the children of Yellow House Society at a go-kart race track.
(Yes, we spent a working day racing cars)
This event managed to raise RM15,000 in cash and kind, and the proceeds went specifically to the children in Yellow House that had dyslexia into a special program jointly developed with Dyslexia Association Wilayah Persekutuan. The children had their fun on the race track (many had never been go-karting before, apparently one of the kids couldn't sleep the night before because he was so excited).
We also had our fun, along with the A1 Team Malaysia; Natalie, Ean and Samir from Hitz FM.
But as correctly pointed out by our regional VP of Sales, this event was not so much a publicity charity event, as it was a chance to show the children through interaction with us that they too can be champions in life. In fact, Faz from My-Kart pointed out that Sir Jackie Stewart, the three-time Formula One World Champion is a known dyslexic. So who knows, maybe we just inspired a Flying Malaysian!
Till we see that come to fruition, here are the photos during that day:
